What a woman! And what a way to start the new year!
Wonder Woman
Completed 38 marathons, 8 ultras and counting.
About Click-4-Klick Click-4-Klick is all about challenges. Kelly (Major Lim Thong), our very own ultra-marathon runner, will be challenging herself to raise S$50,000 for the beneficiaries of President’s Challenge 2010. She will also challenge herself to a 30-hour continuous run on the very first day of year 2010, aiming to cover at least a distance of 160km. The Organising Committee will be getting donors’ support to pledge at least S$1 for every km she completes.

This is my New Balance running shoes – a Christmas pressie from my bro.
While this is the pair of shoes that will take me to the several planned 10k runs in 2010, with the goal of achieving under 1 hour. Actually the target is 45 min! Its a little ambitious cos back then, I prob done only 50-55.. Anyhow.. Looks like need to sign up for the rest the runs, like the hateful Nike Human Race ;p
As I looked at the words New Balance it also spell another dimension. New beginnings for 2010. Achieving Balance in the new year.

Run your own race..

6 DEC SCSM 2009
That was the first time I went to a run on my own. My race buddy has “abandoned” me & suddenly it became “lonely”. Running has always been an alone activity no matter how. Even in a team, you break away from one another. But the fact that you went & ran as a team, it made a difference. You know you are not alone. you know there is someone waiting for you at the end of the run. You know you can be the at the end to receive soneone at the end of his/her run. That is the team.
For most other part, it is a race with your own self. With your mind mostly. The split of the seconds you make a decision to stop or continue make or break the run. The conditioning of the mind is probably more important than that of the body.
If I am planning to my 10k under 1 hour, I jolly need more discipline in my preparation. So it gotta to be a few more 10k runs next year with more regular runs befor the race! Let’s see what we have as usual for next year:
DATE?? – Shape Run? maybe
MAY 29 – adidas sundown SIGED UP
AUG – Nike Human Race? maybe not
NOV – GE Women 10K OK
DEC – SCSM OK but at 50,000 ppl it is really crowded
Really felt the crowd one too many for the SCSM. At many points, I actually have to walk because there were too many people in front of you walking, especially before drinks points & up slopes. It was simply tough trying to overtake because it was a huge wide snake of people in front of you. Imagine it even took me up to 7 minutes to clear the actual starting line!

Ok, is this the first run for the year, having skipped the Sundown & missed the Nike Human?
Mr & Mrs Quek were there to cheer us… THANK YOU!
Took a long 1 hour 25 min to complete the 10K. My! The pro runners about 10 min ahead of us were turning at 5K when we crossed 1K! haha………
To me, the distance/stamina is not the biggest challenge (though I still need to work on it), it is the pain all over that is not only obstacles but discouraging as well. Though, “well-armoured” with 2 ankle guards, 1 knee guard & a big Salonpas, at the 5K, my 2 damned ankles were giving me so much pain that I had to walk. The lower back pain then extend to the side where it later spreaded to the left thigh when I picked up pace again.
Ooooo, I really need to fix all these problem areas! And time for another tui-na..
One observation is I got stitches after running when I had a drink. So I think I shall just take 2 sips next time instead of a cup even if I need to hydrate.
Thank God that yesterday downpour has cause this morning to be very cooling, & the sun came up only at 8 when we were at the last leg. Else it would have been worse. Nice weather. Thank you, Lord!

Eat. Run.

felt an urge to cook.. and my! it has been ages since I last cooked.. maybe the last la Femme Jap cook-out session?
so like in k-drama, i went to the supermart & picked out my groceries & its a menu of Japanese Beef Stew. Yummy! since mrs q is not available, so invited Boon & JH, but only J made it.
Ok, next will be another Jap cook-out session once I get my hands on the sushi maker for the kids! Maybe we should go picnic..
And i think maybe i ate too much, & so I surprised myself by putting on the running shoes at 9:30pm & off for another round!
While I did not run longer or faster, even without the knee guards (yah, hv not get them!!), I managed to complete with much exhilaration. There is something about a night run..
Cooler weather, less people, less traffic (better air). And the flip side? You really end up with a burst of energy at the end. Which means muah sleeping problem even more challenging!
I came across a saying today.. “The body following the mind, but the mind not following the mind”. The response? “You don’t just train the body, you train the mind too! Keep going!”
Such is the mantra for an athletic. And one that I breathed with during the running years. Thankfully I am reminded of it again. During the run, it was me talking to Him, talking to me, talking to Him, talking to me, … , & focusing on the steps & the road ahead. Not that the knee or back pain is reduced, but my attention diverted & my mind going through the training too.
Aja Fighting Gal!
and it felt like yester years..

surprised myself by putting on my running shoes and running outside at 7:30pm!
was planning to do 2 rounds, but the knees gave way & I had to stop at one!
I hope it is at least a good 3km (cant tell), else..
looks like i hv no choice but to get knee guards else dun think I can make it forthe 10k run. The rebounder has taken most of the impact so with the ankle guards all seemed well still..
the route brought back memories some 20 good years ago where Feli & I used to run in the evenings. Back then, in the X-Country team, she being the weakest runner, & I the team captain but not the best runner, needed the extra runs to make up for our inadequacy. Such was the discipline, determination, & perseverance that we exhibited then.
though I am not in the best of shape, physical or mental, not to mention the recurring back pain that has been bothering me the whole week to the extend that I cant sleep at night, this is the reality & what I need to cope with AND overcome.. Keep going, gal!
while I may not make it under 1 hour for this run, I hv the Dec run to make up for it. That will be the target!

Today’s BRC has 5 runners, & we did a comfortable 4km run. I am still struggling to figure out how to use my new watch gadget!!!
Maybe its the tui-na just a couple days ago, the knees tho pain was not pain during the run, but its kinda bruise when pressed.
A good start.. I hope :-)

went for a run with colleague D at East Coast, & unexpectedly ran into, or rather being overtaken, by L.
as we have not run for a while; me since the SC run, we kinda took it real easy & did only abt 3km.
it’s D’s resolution this year to run twice a week, so i guess i can definitely expect a weekday run to be in the pipeline for a while.
